Cosmetic Bonding in Windsor, Ontario

Cosmetic Bonding

For cosmetic issues such as repairing chipped or cracked teeth, reducing unsightly gaps or spaces between teeth, or hiding discoloration or faded areas on the surface of a tooth, cosmetic bonding can be an effective solution.

What is Cosmetic Bonding?

Cosmetic bonding consists of taking a composite material and bonding it to an existing tooth. This process differs from veneers or crowns (and may even offer an advantage) in that it removes little, if any, of the original tooth.

Benefits of Tooth Bonding

In addition to leaving as much of the natural tooth as possible, cosmetic bonding offers other advantages, including:

  • It is quick, typically lasting less than one hour.
  • It is relatively inexpensive compared to other procedures.
  • It does not reduce the tooth’s original structure.
  • It can more easily match the natural color of the teeth, as composite resins come in many different shades.

It should be noted that composite bonds are not as durable as veneers and crowns and subsequently may need to be retouched or replaced over time. Additionally, they stain more easily and require diligent and proper cleaning. If your teeth are treated with cosmetic bonding, in order to maximize their use and durability, composites should be brushed and flossed daily. Certain foods and drinks should be consumed sparingly as they commonly stain composite bonds. Coffee, tea, and tobacco, as well as candy, should be limited. With proper care, however, cosmetic bonds can be a very satisfactory and effective solution in improving the appearance of your smile. This procedure is also sometimes used as an alternative to fillings or to protect a portion of a tooth’s root that has become exposed due to gum recession.
